She hates me

This pretty much ended the meeting:

Architect: Well, all the reports are going to be on their box, so all the deployment problems we have now go away. She's going to hate us either way.
Me: I'd rather have her hate us with little work on our part than have to go through a huge effort to get her to hate us.

Train keeps a rolling

The Metro Extension is very nice. The new stations look great and are well located. I rode my bike to the station and my total time door to door was about the same as the old bus/train combo I have done for the past several years. But more convenient. The problem with the buses is that outside of commute hours it can take more than twice as long to get to work or get home. If I leave work at 3.15 I get home at the same time as if I left at 4. And the entirety of that extra time is spent waiting at the transfer station.

With the train/bike combo there is no transfer, so I have to wait a maximum of ten minutes for my train at the station and that's it. So if I'm going to go in late or leave early it's feasible now. This is wonderful.

Not so wonderful is that I didn't realize there are a number of hills between house and station. And I haven't ridden in 5 years. I will be sore for the first few weeks, I suspect.

Chaos and disorder ruling my world today

thought about doing a quiz like Christy, but I can't think of anything interesting to ask about myself.

Drew Carey was on the Penn show the other day talking about how bizarre it is being a celebrity these days. He said he feels sorry for all the celebs who went to the Snakes on a Plane premiere because the reporters from People and Us and so on would flood them with "What do you think about the JonBenet Ramsey case" type questions.

Unlike most conservative pundits, I believe that celebrities can have an intelligent opinion on things other than whatever they're famous for. But that doesn't mean they will have one on every single item in the news. And Carey said they get real hostile if you *don't* have an opinion on the story of the day. What's wrong with saying "Don't know, don't care."?

I'm to overwhelmed by work and home to have an opinion on anything these days.

Peace and chicken grease...

God sometimes you just don't come through

Much stink is being raised by the article "God would be an atheist." Is there anything in this piece that is news? It has long been established that in order to get good people to do evil things requires religion.

It is not even necessary to look to other countries to see what religious conservatism hath wrought. Look at things like unwanted pregnancy rates in teens, alcoholism, domestic violence, poverty, and divorce rates in the "red states" versus the "blue states". A clear pattern emerges. Maybe those things are the "traditional family values" the religious right keeps touting?

As we relive our lives in what we tell you

The Lovely Mrs Davis asks:

What television, music, movie or book from your childhood are you excited about sharing with your own children?

Schoolhouse Rock
Looney Tunes
Wooden toys (So glad they're making a comeback)
Cardboard bricks
Richard Scarry
Dr Seuss
Shel Silverstein
Free To Be You And Me
Kids musical theatre - assuming there's one in the area. If there's not, maybe we'll start one.
Music. Classical, Jazz (real Miles Davis/John Coltrane jazz, not the Kenny G crap), R & B, Soul, Rock, Rap, Metal, Progressive, all kinds of music. Except country.
Books. All kinds of books.
Critical thinking.

Such a beautiful dream

A common internet phrase that I'm always pleased to see -

Activity: OUT FOR DELIVERY

Note also: there's a difference between DIMM and SO-DIMM. A big difference.

Back in the saddle again

OK, comments are still screwy (jumped 2 python versions, 3 zope versions, and about 12 CMF versions, not too surprising).

The discussion reply module has changed substantially, I'll need to find time to review it and make it work nicely.
