I'm overload baby, I say "bye bye!"
My lovely wife had surgery this morning. The good doctor went in and realized that her right ovary had been largely subsumed by a cyst. So he removed the whole mechanism, tube and all. The pathologist has determined that it was benign. read morePosted on November 28, 2007 | 10 comments so far.
There's never a way and there's never a day
[15:54] griz: we have an animated gif that is used when uploading a file- sequence of 5 blocks, where each block gets bigger then smaller across
the line. It is referred to in all specs as "The Throbber"
I think any editorial would be superfluous.

Moths broken up, quenched at last
I, for one, welcome our cybernetic moth-robot overlords.I've been amused lately that every time I post at least 4-5 of the most recent posts suddenly get a bunch of spam comments. Which I promptly delete before they are ever seen (or indexed by google, which is really their goal). This is why moderated comments are the way of the future for blogs. 100% elimination of spam comments.

Share his peace, sign the lease
I've not had the time recently for housekeeping around here, including things like adding my shared items from my google reader (impacts to layout, etc) So here's a link to them instead:
Matt's Shared Items
I actually share things mostly as a means of marking them to read later. But if you want to know what things I'm interested in enough to go back later to read closer, there it is.

Outside of everything
At the behest of Mutha:As a result of our adoption adventure I've become very interested in China, particularly views of it from expatriates as I continue to dream about getting a job in Hong Kong. I follow about a dozen China blogs including a few group blogs, and one my favorites is China Rises. Tim is a newspaper Bureau Chief located in Beijing and has been in China for many years. His perspective is a nice counterpoint to both the official Chinese media stances and the western media/government positions on issues of the day. He is not afraid to be highly critical of China and he also frequently chastises the west for taking an absurdly one-dimensional view of China issues.
Two recent posts that I highly recommend:
Is China unfairly bashed on piracy?
China's regional differences

This guy's been awake since the second world war
Henry Rollins once said "Sleep is for lightweights". He was, of course, joking. Much to my amusement, the quote at the header of the page while I'm writing this is "Better living through denial".Here has been an unfortunately fairly typical 2-3 times a week nightly routine of babies waking up and needing to be soothed back to sleep:
baby 1: 9.15-9.30
baby 1: 10.20-10.55
baby 2: 10.40-11.15
baby 2: 11:30-11.50
baby 2: 12.05-12.30
baby 2: 2.20-2.50
baby 2: 3.30-3.50
baby1: 4.05-4.20
baby 2: 4.30-4.45
baby 2: up at 5.10
baby 1: up at 5.45
They aren't teething ( or at least Orajel hasn't helped if they are, and I don't feel any teeth making progress), they've both been to the pediatrician and don't have ear infections or anything like that. It's not gas, it's not colic (because they can be relatively easily soothed back to sleep).
And before any of you anti-vaccine zealots start frothing at the mouth and blaming the flu vaccine (or whatever medical success you're fomenting against these days) realize that this started happening before their shots and recurs intermittently.
Yes, I know "But they're Indigo Children and they KNEW they'd be getting evil vaccines and were acting out to protest in the only way they know how." I prefer to live in the real world, not a bad sci-fi novel, so I'll continue to operate from a reality-based set of assumptions, thanks so much.
